Hubby and I traveled to Las Vegas last weekend. We both needed a break from our jobs and the stress that accompanies them. We chose Las Vegas not because we go downtown to the hotels, but because we love Red Rock Canyon and the surrounding desert areas. We decided to avoid the Friday afternoon traffic nightmare on Interstate 15 and instead drove up through the Mojave Preserve. We drove through the western edge of it right at dusk and when we stopped here and I took this photo, I heard an owl in one of the joshua trees! I tried to follow the sound, but hubby decided it was time to get back on the road, and so off we went! But, I enjoyed our stop here and I admire the joshua trees. While this road isn't for 4 wheel drives, it is EXTREMELY isolated. Whatever car you take, be SURE it is in good working condition and you have extra water! There are NO SERVICES for over 90 miles! I would not suggest taking this road in mid-summer. Instead of the RAV, we took the Honda CRV, since it just got new tires and new brakes (finally!) Scenic Sunday for 051010.
