MORE thunderstorms!!!

We are currently up in the eastern Sierra Nevada, between June Lake and Silver Lake.  If you know the area, we are right by the waterfall.  We have rented a cabin for a few days before I head back to school next week.  UGH!  I cannot BELIEVE how quickly this summer went by!

Anyway, on our drive up here, we saw a LOT of thunderheads over Joshua Tree National Park and over the high desert.  (We always drive up Highway 395...through Ridgecrest, Lone Pine, Bishop, and Mammoth).  There were thunderheads the entire way from Ridgecrest to Mammoth yesterday.  We stopped there to pick up groceries as our cabin has a complete kitchen.  It started to rain  pour yesterday and suddently, up by the Twin Lakes, it was HAILING!  FOR REAL!  Hard, little white balls were bouncing off the windshield.  We RAN into the Vons there in Mammoth, got groceries for a couple of days, and by the time we were done shopping, the rain stopped.  We had driven up to Minaret Point to take afternoon photos because there were thunderheads all around.  We usually get there and its clear and we are taking photos into the sun!  It rained on and off all afternoon at our cabin.  Don't know yet what today is like as it is only 5:00 a.m and it's still dark.  I believe, however, that thunderstorms are forecast for the next several days.

Apparently lightning caused some fires in and around the desert.  There's one up at Keyes Point, in the Joshua Tree national park, and another one out by Windy Point.  We had a lot of thunder and lightning here yesterday afternoon.

Here are some pics of the Minaret Vista yesterday afternoon.  You can see how cloudy it was.  Right after this is when it started to rain.  I took these with my little Nikon Coolpix, which I kept in my pocket!  :-)

  2. I missed it!
I love thunderstorms but since we left our summer home at Virginia Lakes two weeks ago I have been too ill to return. I'm afraid that by the time we return the monsoon will be over.
