So, yesterday we packed up and headed out to Las Vegas. I did NOT want to go up Interstate 15, so we drove down past Brawley and up through Lake Havasu city, Oatman, Bullhead City, Henderson, and finally Vegas. It was a long day. We pulled in and headed over to a Whole Foods before we even checked in! We got some hot food for dinner from their deli and hubby got some cranberry muffins and fruit for breakfast. Yum, yum!
Here are some photos from the day's trip:

Gotta love this sign!
Nosey!
Oatman's burros. They sure are pushy! Very spoiled...

I dedicate this blog to my father, who first put a camera in my hands when I was 12 and who took me to many of the places that I love today.

Finishing up in Arizona
After we left the Yuma territorial prison, we angled off on some county road toward Blythe. Hubby said we could stop along the river at one point, but then he didn't want to, so we continued our journey home. We will definitely return this way again, before summer!
Have a wonderful Easter Sunday and enjoy your time with friends and family.

Glamis dunes
To tell you the truth, I don't know if we were at Glamis north or south or east or west and frankly, I don't really care. It was BORING. No trees. Too many people crowded together. Ugh. Not my cup of tea. I was anxious to get outta there and see some desert!
Trains!
The Yuma territorial prison sits right next to a rail bridge which spans the Colorado River and the day we were there, trains were going by every 10 minutes. There had been a huge backup the previous night, so trains were moving through quickly. I grabbed as many photos as I could while they were running. Some had very colorful graffiti on them! I wonder who the people are that did the graffiti?

Yuma territorial prison
We got up Sunday morning, ate breakfast, and headed over to the Yuma territorial prison. Both of us wanted to go inside it and take photos, since we had never been on the "tour". It isn't a tour. You get a guide map and you are off & on your own! One way in, one way out...
It was interesting to see and go inside one of the cells. That must have been horrible in the middle of July! One cell only had 6 bunk beds! That was it. And, it barely had room to squeeze by them! Ugh. The prison also has a "dark cell" for especially BAD prisoners. Sometimes, too, women were housed there. It really was an interesting place to visit and if you are ever in Yuma, do stop by and walk around. It is $6.00 to enter the prison and it is well worth the time!

First stop in Yuma
Our first stop in Yuma was at the territorial prison, which sits right along the Colorado River. In fact, there used to be a ferry crossing there. HA!~ Not this year! The river is extremely low...sigh...
The prison was in fact closed, (open 9:00 - 5:00), but we enjoyed the sights there anyway, as well as the sunset. We did go back the next morning and do the tour of the prison and I'll be posting photos of that tomorrow.
The guard tower. There is only ONE entrance and exit to the prison grounds.
Peaceful sunset.
Bridge across the Colorado River. Trains use it to enter Yuma. They honk as they approach. I'll have train photos tomorrow or the next day!
