It was a pleasant day for a drive...only 82 degrees (hey...we DO live in the desert!). We drove past Warner Springs and saw all the gliders lined up, awaiting a flight. We saw cattle grazing and lots of meadows.
Before we ate lunch, however, we took a drive out past Julian to where the wineries are located. I found this beautiful barn (there were others, but I couldn't pull over and take photos!).
Lunch was DELICIOUS! I had a half a ham sandwich and tortilla soup. YUMMY! Hubby had a hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. THEN he had a slice of apple pie and ice cream! OYE!

Thanks for the nice trip down memory lane. Have you seen the great stone Eagle just outside Warner Springs? We've been to the Julian Bakery several times and those steps you saw lead up to Julian's cemetery I think. Marshall South is buried just up and to the right of those steps. And I'm thinking that barn looks familiar to me as well. Don't know if you have ever done the drive from Julian down through Banner to the desert floor below but it's a really scenic and curvy drive. If you take that route sometime you can make your way over to Borrego Springs via the Yacqui Pass then come up Montezuma's Grade back to Warner Springs. A really nice day trip.......
ReplyDeleteAl, no we haven't taken that road! That will be on our "to do" list. We WOULD like to go back and camp at the campground by Lake Cuyamaca, however, but we'll take our son and grandson with us as hubby doesn't know how to put up a tent!
