Thunderstorm skies

We had another afternoon of thunderstorms up here in the eastern Sierra yesterday.  We ventured out for a quick lunch, then drove up through Lee Vining and on to the visitor center at Mono Lake.  The skies were cloudy and dark all around us and we could see rain coming down in the June Lake loop.  We decided to head back to our cabin and stay indoors for the rest of the afternoon!  Thunderstorms are now forecast every afternoon here for the rest of the week.

  1. Hope there is no dry lightining strikes,(and more hope that any do not start more wildfires,, this country has had enough already..)

  2. Beautiful, eerie skies. There's been some great thunderhead skies in the desert as well!

  3. Well it is 6:30am here and that means it's 9:30 pm there. Right now I'm looking at the Radar and wow there is a massive squall of Thunderbumpers and Gullywashers from Desert Hot Springs down to Palms Springs and clear west to Cabazon & Banning. The most intense is around Whitewater and Morongo Valley. The colouration there is in the lavenders and purples which you rarely see. Usually dark reds and orange are strong cells. But these must be very intense.

Beutiful pics of the mountains. Makes me wish I was home there. My brother had to evacuate at his home in Ranchita as a result of that lightning strike. Hopefully one of these will douse the areas there.

I also see intensity all through Imperial Valley right now. They've already have $10 million+ damage by two other storms.

  4. Timeless, yes, I read about Ranchita. That's such a pretty area. We're actually up in the eastern Sierra Nevada, up by June Lake and Mono Lake. They are having thunderstorms here every afternoon...yes, lightning fires, too.
