This week's theme is "itchy" and boy, I just squirm looking at these two photos! But, you know, a cactus like this makes an excellent home for the bird nest (in second photo) and certainly provides protection! Cactus wrens sometimes make their nests in cacti like this one. Photo Hunt "itchy" for November 13, 2010.
Cool - I was just in Palm Desert! Your shots are beautiful. We hung out a bit in Joshua Tree while we were visiting our friends and almost used a cactus shot for itchy.
ReplyDeleteI went with a Vegas shot instead.
Have a great weekend.
Looks pretty painful if touched!
ReplyDeleteSo nice that it is a good place to raise baby birds. Snakes probably do not like to try to get to them.

Cholla hurt.....but the wrens do love their nests in it....just feel sorry for anyone who steps near them:) Do you know that in times of stress, javelina will eat this cactus with needles stuck all over their snout? It's disturbingly cool:)
ReplyDeleteNot a place I would seek when needing a scratch. Such interesting cacti.
ReplyDeletethat's a gorgeous cactus! but the spines give me goosebumps.
ReplyDeleteOooeee! That is a scarey prickley cactus. I am glad a bird can be safe in it!
