I dedicate this blog to my father, who first put a camera in my hands when I was 12 and who took me to many of the places that I love today.

museum windows~Whimsical Windows, Delightful Doors~030512
The Palm Springs art museum is soon opening a satellite location in Palm Desert, at the old visitor's center building, which is only about 4 blocks from our home here in the desert. I drove up that way today because they have a beautiful desert garden up there and I wanted to get some photos of the plants that are blooming. This will open in a couple of weeks and I will regularly visit it. Look at the tiny windows facing west. Many desert buildings don't have large windows that face west because they get a LOT of heat from the afternoon sun. Our own house has a sliding patio door and a large window which face the west and believe me, they get HOT in the summer! I just ordered some thermal curtains for both of them and I can't wait for them to arrive! I'd say that the smart builders in the desert don't put west-facing windows in their dwellings! The small windows makes sense. And as much as window look wonderful, in a gallery they are bad news.
ReplyDeleteYep, we have the same thing here in Israel. All the new, fancy modern buildings have glass walls, and people have to put up blinds and run the AC all day long - but the smarter, less modern architecture all has either no South/West windows, or itty bitty ones like these.
ReplyDeleteGreat find!
Not only is it a beautiful building, it's a smart one too--small picturesque windows on the west side.
