Jerome~Friday Fences~040512

Yesterday we got up early and drove up through Jerome, Tizigoot, then Cottonwood, and CampVerde.  We also stopped at Montezuma's Well.  We drove back to Prescott through Jerome toward the late afternoon, but there was a lot of traffic on the narrow road through town, so we didn't stop.  Come to think of it, I don't believe we have EVER stopped and parked in Jerome!  We did stop at the mining museum there in town and paid the $5 each to go inside.  Very interesting!  If you ever have a chance (and it's open...) do stop at the mining museum.  The bottom  fence photo is from the museum. We did find a nice place to eat for lunch in Cottonwood~The Tavern Grill. And, on our way home, we twice spotted pronghorns along the road.  Hubby spotted the first group.  They were all laying down and I just sailed right by them.  But, I spotted the second group of 4 and pulled over to take some photos of this one who was interested in observing us, but not for long!  Bye! and off he went! 1. Did you ever visit Jerome in the old days when the State Hwy 89A ran through the winding center of Jerome was brick paved ? It was bumpy in parts and I remember when the State said it was going to tear it up and apply Asphalt Pavement that the residents freakout. The loved their little brick road.

Similar sentiment is with residents of Crown King where the old switched back railroad bed which is dirt, some have plans to pave it, but residents say BO! This was even way back in an old 1990s issue of Arizona Highways magazine.

Last time I was their we ate at one of the local Cafe/Beer Bars where our table was on a balcony over looking the steep beautiful scenery.

Have more fun on your trip, Kevin

  3. With all the other site seeing you did Jerome would have required even more walking, up and down hill. It's a cute place to window shop, but....

  4. Interesting drive - we love that area. If you ever get a chance, drop by the Page Springs fish hatchery near Cottonwood. I know it sounds silly but it really is a beautiful spot, and right on Oak Creek.

  5. Jerome is one of the greatest places in Arizona to take pictures! The first time I went there in 1972 it had seven residents and was a certifiable ghost town. It's now a thriving tourist community with many old restored buildings which are wonderful photographic subjects. I can tell you had a great time there!

  6. You were in one of my favorite parts of the world. We often talk about moving to that area. We've been there twice in the past 9 months or so and will be going back soon. Jerome is pretty cool and it's worth parking the car and walking around. Nice pics!
