Silver Lake~Nature Notes~042811

It's hard for me to realize that up in the Sierras, they occasionally still get snow, or still have snow, since I live in the desert. We've pretty much already had our spring down here and now, as the daytime temperatures rise toward the high 90's and maybe even move into the 100's shortly, we all realize that summer will be upon us soon. The snowbirds have left. They have closed their houses and have driven their RVs back to Canada or the Pacific Northwest or the Midwest. RV parks are emptying out quickly. But, up in the Sierras, they are still getting snowstorms like the one they had last weekend. Hubby and I had stopped by Silver Lake, which is one of the 4 lakes by the June Lake loop. We wanted to make reservations at the Silver Lake Resort, which sits right across the street from the boat house and lake. We stayed there last October, on the last weekend that they were open for the season. Unfortunately, on April 23, they still hadn't opened yet, not even for fishermen! And, right after we left, it began to snow again. We did manage to see two waterfalls this last trip. We usually only see one of them. And, the lake's boats were all tied up and sleeping. I'm sure the lake and resort will slowly come back to life and I wish we could be there to enjoy it, but that will have to wait until school is over for the summer. Nature Notes for April 28, 2011. 2. Love the boat shot.

That certainly is beautiful country, though I've had enough snow to last me quite a while now.

  3. We drove up to June Lake when we were in Bishop earlier this month. Nothing open there either. We didn't even try to drive the loop. I can still remember camping at Silver Lake as a child. My dad loved that place.
